The Exhibition: "Magazzini Aperti – M.A.A.M."

The "Magazzini Aperti – M.A.A.M." (Museo Archeologico Alto Mugello) project, which was born in 2022, was created with the aim of making the precious archaeological finds stored in the museum's warehouses accessible to the public. By visiting the exhibition, you'll be able to admire ancient artifacts that bear witness to the most remote past of the Upper Mugello, from the Paleolithic period right up to the late Middle Ages. The artifacts, offering a unique glimpse into the millennia-old history of these lands, will be on display until July 27th, 2025.

Upper Mugello Archaeological Museum

Inaugurated in 1994, the Upper Mugello Archaeological Museum is the result of extensive and careful work to recover and study archaeological finds from the territories of the upper Senio, Santerno, and Lamone Valleys — an area of extraordinary archaeological interest, once inhabited by Etruscan, Roman, and medieval populations.

Today the museum is part of the "Museum System of Mugello and Florentine's Mountains” (Sistema Museale Mugello Montagna Fiorentina), a network dedicated to protecting and promoting the cultural heritage of the region. The museum, through explanatory panels, reconstructions, maps, and original archaeological artifacts, offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily life of the people who inhabited the Upper Mugello area in ancient times.

Among the oldest artifacts that bear witness to the first communities inhabiting the area are flint tools, objects used for hunting and metalworking, dating back to the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods. The Etruscan period, on the other hand, is represented by elegant ceramics and decorated fragments, while the Roman era is characterized by remains of structures such as canals and masonry, symbols of an advanced social and technological organization. Finally, the Medieval period is documented by a variety of objects such as iron keys, bronze buckles, coins, and household tools, which tell the story of everyday life in the small villages of the Apennines.
