Publication Date  Wednesday, December 4, 2024

Mugello is magical during the Christmas season! This enchanting valley in Tuscany, located just a short distance from Florence, transforms into a fairytale setting where natural beauty blends with festive lights, craft markets, and local customs that enhance the warmth and conviviality of the holiday season.

Let’s explore the upcoming holidays and events that make Mugello the perfect destination to experience the authenticity of Christmas in an intimate and charming atmosphere.

Barberino di Mugello

For the 13th consecutive year, Barberino di Mugello will be flooded with the Christmas spirit for Natale in Corso, an event that combines tradition, fun, and festive cheer. The event is scheduled for Sunday 8th, 15th, and 22nd December 2024, in the heart of the town’s historic centre.

The highlight of the event is the traditional Christmas market, where you'll find a wealth of local products and typical seasonal specialties. Perfect for original gift ideas, the markets showcase the best of Mugello's craftsmanship and cuisine.

The days will be filled with activities for all ages, including:

  • Santa’s House, a magical experience for the little ones;
  • The big bingo game, with rich and exclusive prizes;
  • Live musical performances, adding a festive touch with Christmas carols.

The event is, of course, free and a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the magic of Christmas.

Dicomano

Dicomano is another town which will be brought to life with Christmas markets, Christmas concerts, and events for to children. After turning on the Christmas lights and the official opening of the Christmas Village on December 1st, two more unmissable events await you:

  • Sunday, December 8th – Christmas markets will be set up in the morning, while in the afternoon, the Street Gospel Christmas performance will bring the warmth of the season through its melodies. The Christmas Village will also be open, offering a themed area where visitors can discover Christmas traditions in a magical atmosphere, perfect for immersing yourself in the festive spirit.

  • Sunday, December 22nd – This will be an even richer festive day: in addition to the markets and Christmas Village, starting at 4:00 PM, the program includes a performance by the Children's Choir from the Church, and the traditional Treasure Hunt organized by the Parish’s Youth Group, offering a fun and engaging experience for the little ones. The day will culminate with the arrival of Santa Claus and plenty of live music.

Palazzuolo sul Senio

Here, Christmas arrives with the exhibition of "1000 Presepi" (1000 Nativity Scenes), turning the town into an open-air museum and a real tourist attraction for Upper Mugello.

From December 8th to January 6th, scattered throughout the streets of the charming historic centre, you’ll discover over 400 Nativity scenes. The displays range from traditional Nativity representations to more creative and innovative interpretations. The route, open every day, offers a captivating experience to appreciate the local craftsmanship. You can even vote for your favorite Nativity scene, and the prizes for best ones will be awarded on the Epiphany.

During the holiday season, Palazzuolo also transforms into the Land of Elves with the Elfi’n Borg display: many small elves are hidden throughout the town, waiting to be discovered on a magical journey filled with lights, charming views, and lanterns.

Additionally, there will be a Christmas market in Piazza dell'Avvento featuring handcrafted and gourmet products, and Santa’s Cabin, where children can meet Santa Claus and give him their letters.

Borgo San Lorenzo

Lastly, Borgo San Lorenzo offers a rich calendar of events, including performances, concerts, Christmas markets, and a Christmas train for the little ones.

But the main event not to be missed is the Cavalcata dei Magi (The Ride of the Three Wise Men), a historical reenactment involving the entire community, with costumes and a captivating setting. On the Epiphany, the solemn procession will start from the Sanctuary of the Crucifix, with the Three Wise Men on horseback in beautiful historic silk costumes. Accompanied by numerous performers, musicians, and flag bearers, they will parade through the streets of the town to reach the Pieve of San Lorenzo, where the event will conclude with a final concert.

So many events to discover one of the most fascinating areas of Tuscany, where tradition and Christmas come together to create unforgettable emotions.
